Powersworderover 5 years agoIt was a really fun story, but you need to add in a bunch of contractions to your dialogue to make it sound more natural. If you don't use them, especially in relaxed conversation, the dialogue sounds stilted and robotic.
For example:
It is - it's
I would - I'd
You are - you're
I will - I'll
I am - I'm
You'll be surprised at how much difference they make.

I have looked for editors a number of times and have never had a response from any of the volunteer editors. I am not certain if there is something in the system where I do not get replies or if the 15-20 people I have asked are not interested. I will continue to look for an editor because that is a consistent comment from people.
I do reread my stories a number of times, but I find it hard to catch all of the mistakes (kind of like math problems, one tends to make the same mistake over and over). Writing is a part time hobby, so not something I excel at. I have written technical papers, but they are much different than stories. I will continue to seek an editor and am working at improving the quality of the stories.
I am glad that some of you have enjoyed the story.
I was not sure if I would write another chapter when I wrote it. It sort of depended upon the response and where my twisted mind took me (I tend to bounce around a lot on stories as I write for myself as well, and my tastes/thoughts bounce around a lot). But there have been a number of people that seemed to like it so I have started another chapter.
