"Solomon and Serena were sitting on the couch in their baby seats..."
There were no such things as baby seats, or car seats. In 1954, plastics were rare, and nothing like we have now. Things were made of steel. Steel was king.
I've worked on cars since about 1965, which means I've worked on just about every generation of car, back to Model A Fords, built from 1929-1931. There was little to no plastic in 1954 cars.
I can't remember anything in a '54 Chev, or Ford made out of plastic. They did have something called bakelite, which was sorta like plastic. It really was much, much different than now, where plastic is everywhere. Plastics started coming around in my childhood, by 1963-64, there were some plastics, only a few. I remember when plastic squeeze bottles for catsup and mustard first came out. They were a big deal! LOL
Still lovin' the story.
