I was a little confused by how much attention was given to Esmerelda at the start, but her doubling as Prince Charming tightens the plot considerably. I feel the emotional arc could have been better-paced, though, especially given the dwarves are reduced to a setpiece: had there been more of a rapport, maybe even a full scene with Snowdrop before her flight into the woods, the kiss-of-life bookend would have read -much- stronger, and not what's basically a stranger raping her back into consciousness. By and large the plot is good, but the ending feels rushed.
PS:
"She was definitely a dwarf because no other females of any other peoples had such thick or lustrous looking beards as those of dwarven women"
A fellow Pratchett fan, I see!
I always thought it took more than a simple kiss to awaken a princess from and evil sleep. Well done.
