Chapter 36 Dragon Business

Vexxor had little choice in the matter. He spent days hopping around the world and scrying for the relics. They had simply disappeared. He had one clue and that was this Champion. He contacted former allies. Several had destroyed crystals to the lich.

It was a risk, but he had little choice. He would have to try and get into the mind of the champion and find out where the relics were located.

He was in Dragon lands, in the Valley of Crags in a remote cavern. He had been back to the Human Palace once. His old room to find it had been cleaned out and made a storage closet. He had set off an alarm and got hit by necromancy blocking wards that shot various positive energy bolts at him. He fled due to the damage.

His tomes for the research on liches and Draco-liches had been taken. His wards on the objects having failed when he 'died'. Something he failed to consider. The Soul binding would likely have failed and had a 50% chance of killing lord Barimus if he had still been alive during his transformation. The new research journal called out these observations as he penned them.

One of the Blue Dragons, The eldest son of a member of the Dragon Council had gotten in and recovered only one volume of his work. There were 6 but they were not in the main Draconic restricted library. This one tome was minor compared to the others.

It took them a week of being pursued to find the tracking runes on every other page of the book and to disarm the 182 explosive runes cast on the internal pages to keep it from being destroyed, damaged, but not destroyed as the first couple had gone off. The second was inside of a vacuum. It still damaged the pages.

Vital information lost he was certain. They had to disarm those runes and glyphs one at a time. He had 23 different dragons interested in his research who took turns in removing them while he moved in another circle scrying for the relics and the missing tomes to no avail.

The dragons knew of his treachery with Barimus in soul binding him. He would be more closely guarded and under a geas from any dragon who wished to undergo this change to keep him from trying it again. He had lost that leverage, then his research, and his relics to this Eldar Silvertree.

The relics were, in truth, Null's Greater Relic and other necromancy Relics also attributed to Null and built in the 5th Age to improve the odds of transitioning into a Draco-Lich. Especially with younger Dragons who had not reached Ancient status.

Null's means of getting more followers at a younger age. He had no immediate method of reproducing the higher success results and these dragons would not wait forever. They had finally moved him to this 'safe' location.

He let them know, "I have to get into the mind of this Champion Eldar Silvertree and figure out where my relics have been moved too. You found 1 of the books, the one that does not deal with dragons and only liches in your restricted library, and it was trapped. Your adversaries are tracking you. They know others are pursuing the transformation. They had to be involved in taking out Lord Barimus."

One of the dragons looked over, "They are Nulls Relics and not yours. You stole them! Of course, they were aware but he was a rouge and undead. They imprisoned his son on the council. He will be executed because even the neutral members of the council disapprove of this research. We are taking all the risks. Can you do this or not? If not, you are of no use to us, creature!"

He hissed at the Dragon, "I need the relics to do it, else I have to begin the research again, it took me 50 years with the relics, and I would have to use another relic to power the research! Nothing minor. A major relic! One that would not be detected by draconic means. I know of one, but have no way of getting to it easily. That is my secret.

You have another that could be used, without being detected that would be a different matter. You have a hero or champion of Null who can help in recreating the objects that would be another matter. But, no! The risk to you of being found out is too great because you are all young and have a full measure of a true-life left.

You want this to gain real power! I have one option, short of going into the minds of a dragon to try and get the information. I must get into the mind of this Eldar Silvertree to be able to recover the relics that he stole!"

---

Eldar's apprentices and his team nodded as he climbed the stairs and entered the room with a stack of books. He spent the afternoon going through spellbooks disabling a few glyphs along the way. He came across a list of 11 spells He wanted to add, 6 that he just wanted to destroy completely, and 3 he had not cracked the cipher on them yet. All in one book.

All of the others were redundant except for 2 which were enchanter specific. All types of cool enchanting twists. Whoever came up with those spells could make a fortune today. Like a certain wife of his, at least she would be soon. Eldar felt a little tired and he noticed the house was quiet and nobody was around.

He headed outside and brushed down T'suras. Then it hit him. He heard nobody in the area. This meant that the village had somehow lost all of its people. Else, he had entered another dream-like state. He saddled T'suras barding and all and headed to the one place he figured he would get answers. Silent Falls.

---

Vexxor managed to locate him via scrying in the Elven Kingdom Village of Porzcosa. His mind was organized with massive tides and eddies of information. Too much data to find what this 'Champion' stored. All attempts at forcing an answer from him to locate where to search without his knowledge were blocked to him. He was stuck with illusions and trying to get the answer from him through guile.

His worst field of study was illusions. He never gave it much thought until now as he needed it, but he had to try and adjust to what Silvertree's mind would freely give, and what he could implant into the illusion. He knew this would be pathetic, but it was his only shot. Eldar searched for sounds, smells, people, all of these things, and it overwhelmed Vexxor's ability to keep the illusion real.

---

The Lady of Dreams was in a panic as Corellon arrived, "This lich is trying to usurp Eldar's mind to find the information! The sword is aiding in blocking it. Eldar seems to be aware that everything is off."

Corellon looked over, "Monitor, but do not interfere this time. He is using magic to do this. Eldar needs to face him, at least in this. No interference as we are dealing with a creature created with Null's aid.

We need to learn what we can from the exchange as Sartior and Bahamut have played a hand in getting him information. We need to know if he uncovers that information. That may force them both into providing direct aid through their own separate followers."

---

Eldar heard his heartbeat but not T'suras or the sound of hooves hitting the ground. He got to the falls and hopped down and the falls were not so silent, as the water rushed down. He looked around and called out. "Why am I here?"

He went to get on T'suras to find he was not there and there was nothing around, Nothing but darkness and the glow off of Silent Falls which had once again had gone eerily silent, too silent as it had some noise but now it was as if he could no longer hear anything. He looked around and nothing had changed. He decided to step into the water. He stepped on the water like the night of his wedding. He walked to the middle as he had before.

Eldar turned to the curtain of water and walked toward it to see if it would part as it did on that night. He stepped through into a small cave. One that did not exist behind the true Silent Falls. He looked around and he saw nothing of note. "Why have I been brought here?" Eldar sat and waited for something to change but time has no meaning here. He could not tell if it had been a minute, month, or millennium.

---

Vexxor got caught in a loop. Eldar kept searching for answers and everything that was wrong with his illusion had been shot back at him including the fact the cave he was in was a fucking trap Eldar put into place as it did not exist. He had no method of getting him to move until he was ready to move. He had been at it for hours and his mind blocked him at every turn. He realized he would likely have to reveal himself at some point, Vexxor worked on how he would present that illusion instead until he left the cave.

---

Eldar got up and left the cave and saw the woods destroyed orcs and giants everywhere and troops marched toward the Capital. Eldar tried to teleport and nothing happened.

Even a basic spell. He looked around more and he saw what looked like a command tent. It was large and heavily guarded. He walked forward and into the tent unimpeded. He saw the Second talking with his father via a communication crystal.

Eldar shook his head, "This is what we have prevented."

A voice from behind him answered, "Yes, and no. You have prevented it this time. The next war and history will repeat itself."

Eldar sighed, "The only way I know of that happening is if Draco-lich gets created and the only creature that I know of that would be interested in that is the lich Vexxor. This is not real and this could only be caused by the lich."

Vexxor asked, "Why do you say that?"

Eldar smiled to himself, "Because if you were a Deity you would already know the answer to that question. You cannot create anything right in this illusion. You are trying to read my thoughts on this matter. Read this. Show yourself."

Vexor dropped the illusion mostly, except how he appeared.

All pretense of the illusion fell away. Instead, he was left with the image of the lich sitting on a throne of bone in a blackened room with a single light over the Lich. He tried to stare Eldar down from his perch, "You took something from me?"

Eldar scoffed, "You took SOMEONE from me. I took nothing from you. Did we find things you left behind? Of course, we did. You will know that I do not have them. You used magic to locate them and have failed to find them. You also know I do not know or wish to know where they are."

Vexxor felt the truth but also misdirection in his answer. Something was not right.

Eldar continued, "The only thing I know is that they are in the only safe place anyone could put these items. But I have no idea where."

Vexxor felt it was the truth, even more so now. Yet he was holding things back and sending him weather information throughout his life! It was useless garbage in getting what he was seeking. He tried to find the missing pieces but only got what Eldar gave him. He let his guard slip in the process.

Eldar spoke, "Now it is my turn. You fear that I have corrupted your plans. It would take centuries to create those items if they could even be recreated. In the meantime, those dragons you wished to help change down the line are patient but not that patient. Wherever they are hiding you. They are hiding you. I can sense the fear from you growing. You fear that I will discover your exact location in the Valley of..."

Vexxor disconnected the spell and hissed out an angry screech. One of the dragons who had watched over Vexxor looked at him, "Did you find them?"

Vexxor looked at him, "Wait here. I have someplace to search alone!" He teleported away. He did not know where to go so he headed to the Far East. A place he had visited in his youth. He was on a dock and he stole a small fishing vessel and set sail.

He knew nothing of navigation or sailing but he needed to be away and try and get to the one relic he might be able to use. He had his charts and a compass. He pushed onward for now. He would find some humans to teach him what he needed, but not here.

He just teleported here and the dragons would trace it. For now, he had to move by other means. The elven champion was focused elsewhere. Not on the Deep Sea. He did not have the skills to get the information from him and he would only expose himself and his plans if he tried that again."

---

Corellon slammed his fist now, "Eldar ended it but gained more as he lost nothing. He knows the Dragons are harboring him. His rage is immeasurable at the moment and will challenge them himself."

The Lady of Dreams sighed, "Ripples are going off, hundreds of millions of them this time. Until he sets a course of action or gets the answers he needs. Many answers I cannot give him. He has to get them from the Dragons."

---

Eldar found himself in his room on the bed surrounded by 6 worried ladies. He pulled out a Crystal. "Lord Regal I need to see you immediately!"

Lord Regal came back, "What is going on?"

He sighed and growled out, "I was contacted by the ficka lich!"

He looked at the ladies, "How long was I out?"

They shrugged. Rachel looked at him, "All the books appeared to have been read and you had 2 books set aside. You have been out for 4 hours that I know of. I found you first."

He looked at Annette, "Were you able to get in at all?"

She shook her head. "It was different; like you were inside a stone tunnel."

Eldar talked to the crystal, "Lord Regal if you cannot come to me, I will come to you in the conference room I was taken to meet and discuss my future."

He sighed, "Meet me at the Elven Palace conference room."

Eldar yelled out, "NO! This is not an elven matter this is a DRAGON matter. I am on my way!"

He put the crystal away and stood, "I have used my teleportation circles today and I do not want to get you any further involved in this."

He cast his spell and was in the conference room and it was not empty. Alarms sounded out to the left and the right. He stood still, "I am Eldar Silvertree. I am with the Knights, Order of Dragons. I am here on urgent business."

Nobody spoke to him or in any language he understood. He started walking toward the door.

Someone yelled, "STOP!" In a booming voice.

Eldar looked back, "I have identified myself and told you who I am and who I am with."

He pulled out the Crystal, "Lord Regal I am in that conference room but it is in use so you might want to come and get me yourself."

He heard the anger in his growling voice "Do not move I will be right there."

Eldar put the stone away and waited. Lady Silver Hair arrived, "Come with me."

Eldar followed her out of the room. She looked at Eldar, "You just broke so many rules."

Eldar looked at her and with a note of disgust, "I was not given the official ficka rulebook. Give it to me for an hour and I will have it memorized too."

She shook her head but chuckled under her breath. She took him into a different room.

Eldar asked her, "What is this place?"

She looked at him as he stared at the various stations with maps of the world, "Simply put it monitors magical activity within the Dragon Lands."

Eldar nodded and stopped. She looked at him, "We cannot stay here."

Eldar looked at her, "You will if you want answers. I was contacted mentally across a great distance by the lich."

She looked around and said, "We should not be talking about that here."

Eldar looked at her, "Can you trace all magical communication going from inside to the outside of your area?"

She nodded, "I believe so." She knew they could from anywhere to anywhere but she could not tell him that.

Eldar pulled out his crystal. "I contacted Lord Regal on this crystal after waking from that conversation. I was in the village of Porzcosa I turned the tables on him in that dream state. I know he is hiding here, in Dragon lands. I know if you can track when this was used you can track when another magical connection was made.

That same location over the last 4 hours that I was knocked out. That means you can find that location here in your area! He is being protected by someone wanting to use his services. NOW do you see why I say this was not an elven matter?"

She sighed, "Follow me to Lord Regal. I will check this out for you, give me your stone for the moment. It will help."

They walk into what looks like a private quarter only larger. He stood there while Lady Silver Hair left. Lord Regal glared at him as he stormed in in elven form, "NO, you dare to tell me NO?!"

Eldar glared back at him, "The elven people were kept in the dark on what was discovered in the liches layer although we handed it to you. We discovered the Lich in the Castle still and recovered artifacts even your people did not want to touch let alone try and store. I have been told left and right that this is 'Dragon business.'

When I have something that is NOT Elven business, I am not dragging them into Dragon affairs. I show up at the palace and I draw attention! The Queen is immediately alerted! Not counting any number of other nobles trying to figure out how and why I am a FICKA Duke when it is all CLASSIFIED!!

I will tell you what I told Lady Silver Hair as we passed through that big room back there. She said 'simply put it tracks magic in our land.' The Lich is in hiding in YOUR LAND!

He had me knocked out for 4 hours. That is a long-time magical connection that your room should have picked up. I was delving deeper. He was being put under pressure to do this change which he cannot do without the relics.

He was trying to divine that information from me! His illusion was hollow. He could not duplicate sounds or places. He could not do any compulsion to me as I have immunity to mind control through my sword.

He took me to an image of what the area would be like. Had the Second in Command and his undead 'pet' had lived. A tent right outside Silent Falls, and troops swarming toward the Elven Capital. In this grand future of your Chromatic Dragons that we stopped! His comment was 'this time!' Still not showing himself.

I was working the location out of him when he terminated the link. I got as far as the 'Valley of' cross-reference that and where evil dragons live with the long-term magical connection. You should be able to track him.

I gave my communication crystal to Lady Silver. She stated that it could help point to my location outside of your realm. Now you know where the lich is and who is wanting to use him. 'DRAGON business.' Not Elven Kingdom business.

My first duty is the protection of the Elven people, my second would be my family as not all will be elven soon, next is the Dragon War Treaties and all of our allies associated with the Knights! Yes, I said NO! I did not say FUCK NO, FICKA NO, or any other disrespectful ideas I came up with! Even If I thought about them!
