There is a lengthy process, police checks and reams of paperwork. So sorry, him turning up with a gun, is very unlikely.

Yes, it is possible to get a gun in the UK if you know the right people. But it could just as easily have been a replica just to make Mark freeze for a moment while Danny takes his first punch. After that it would all be over.

As regards the ending, I wanted to give a degree of finality to the story that another weapon wouldn’t give. Such a form of weapon is not unheard of in England and can be found easily by a person with the right connections.
