Well, if there is a touch of realism, the fantasy becomes become believable so that people can become involved with the pain and suffering for just little bit. If there is a small chance of possibility of something could happen, then the reader can feel the pain. Can a prison system like this happen? It sure can and it some cases the possibility is real in some countries. Anyway, the prisoner will not be able to function much longer if he is not given food and water to replenish his body. So far, he was given some food in a dish but no water for the day. Oh, was he strung up or was he sitting. Check the situation he is in before confusing the readers.
