My problem with the story is the dismissal of the other partners in the relationship without their involvement in the situational resolution. They should have gotten all together for a heartfelt and honest powwow. Something more substantive might have been agreed upon by the "village". At least something that wont have to have any implied threat.

Tom took a risk by not dumping Mary at the lake house. He did a good job with ‘trust, but verify’. The reunion? I might have had Tom secretly travel Saturday morning to observe through Sunday night. If she knew he was reading her texts, then she also knew that she should have told Tom everything before well before her travel. Assuming that he’d read the email isn’t respectful communication- it’s a hair away from omission.

As for the idea that he rejected the invitation to be with the other wives? Absolutely correct choice. If he had, the only out would be to extend and take the story in a different direction. Then this could have brought back to the theme of the dangers of open marriage. This would have been alot of work, and required character development on a higher level. The authors choice was much more compatible for the 2 pages here.

I ONLY comment on stories that I enjoy, and I thank you very much for this solid effort. Any of my changes would have only added about a paragraph or so. Everything else was here, intact already. But what I loved the most? She wasn't written to be the typical brainless easily manipulated slut. The friends were friends with a long history. My opinion on the story as is? I don't think I've ever read a plot quite like this before. Extremely well done. Five stars.

… That was right after Tom had found out about Mary’s cheating the previous summer. At that point, if I had been Tom, I would have been laying out the terms to avoid divorce – the first of which would have been no further contact with any of the cheaters (all of Mary’s “Townie” friends).

At that point in Mary’s and Tom’s marriage, there are no children; so a divorce is almost a “get out of jail free” event. Yeah, there’s some emotional trauma, and the community property has to be divided; but it’s a clean break provided there was a prenup that specified no continuing alimony (and many states have done away with alimony unless the wife is a stay at home). To proceed forward with the marriage without a postnup and counseling is beyond idiotic; yet that’s what seems to happen. Worse yet, two years later they start having children – which, for Tom, is 18 years of entrapment if Mary gets an itch.

And sometime after that, there’s a school reunion and all of the old friends will be there – but Tom is unable to go? Sorry, that should have been a case of Mary and the kids staying home and not attending the reunion.

I just don’t see how Tom regains trust in Mary after not just an affair, but an orgy. Not telling Tom that she had been sexually intimate with the friends they both partied with prior to their marriage was bad enough; but to then have an orgy with those same friends would have been the nail in the coffin. The marriage has communication problems – and once the information leaks out to Tom, there’s no way he can ever trust Mary again.

I think getting upset at her past was a bit problematic, even if it was her friends. The real problem was her cheating, and I think in the story the resolution was too easy. Tom could have left during the middle of the night, but it was obvious that he wouldn't do that bc he at that point wasn't going to leave her to the friends. To add to it maybe Tom to make her feel the pain could take his suitcase out of the room, move the car, and hide out for a bit, make her feel the pain of what she did fir a bit ( and also see if she tries to find him, or does she run into their arms?). It was just a bit too easy.

Her agreeing to move with him is a bit of making amends, but I think there still would be tension unsaid.

In the final scene she should have made it a point to check with him about going to the lake house& that she was going with the kids..especially knowing he was checking her texts, she should have made sure he understood.

I like that she doesnt get angry at him for looking at her phone. It is an invasion of privacy, but when she says that she is okay with it if it makes him feel more confident that shows love and understanding.

Tom and Mary remaining married isn’t inconceivable or necessarily a problem for me, but how we got there was. Years of secrecy and actual cheating would surely have required extensive counselling. Whilst her committing to the move to Atlanta was a good start, it was just that. Barely hours beforehand, she was on the verge of trying to persuade Tom to swing with those she had betrayed him with. And no way should Mary be allowed to hang around with her old ‘friends’ without Tom being present IMO. The reconciliation was far too easy, given what had actually been going on.

Anyway, the LW section of this site could use a few more RAAC stories and a few less wildly extravagant BTB stories. When you’re in a strong BTB mood, maybe revisit the characters and burn Annie down to express your aggression a bit.

Strange to say that a wife not cheating at her reunion is a very different twist to the usual. Her cheating after being married WAS the usual, and they got over it a bit quick. Actually, too quick. But, a good story.
