"And this is what you told Mr. Kean?"

"Yes, well, I was so upset," she says as she dabs away tears I never saw.

"Why didn't you report this to the police?"

"I don't know, embarrassment, shame, and he was only a young man. It's hard enough to get on in this world without a criminal record."

"No more questions, your Honor."

The defense lawyer sat, and the prosecution stood. She had scribbled some notes from Mrs. Kean's testimony. "Mrs. Kean, let me clarify what you just testified to." She goes through the beginning. "Then I get a little confused. Out of the five statements, why is today so different from the other four?"

"Five statements?"

"Yes, five. There was Roberts; then your daughter made one, retracted it, and made another. Today you have made a statement that is different from your original. So, I ask you again, why is your statement different from the other first four?"

"I...I was under a lot of strain and depression. It's just become clearer over time."

"In your original statement, you said you called him up to help put something on the wardrobe. Yet today, there was no mention of that. Which one is right?"

"Today's."

"So why did Mr. Johnson say the same thing in his statement? Were you both wrong simultaneously?"

"No....I don't know what he lied about."

"I put it to you, Mrs. Kean, that you heard your daughter on the phone with her friend, telling her how much she missed Robert and the sex because it was so good. I then put it to you that when you got the opportunity to get a sample, you tried it on and got rebuffed."

"No, it's not true. He was the one to try it on."

"So, why did he shout 'No, I'm in love with Charlie?"

"He didn't say that."

"So now you are calling your daughter a liar as well?"

"No, she misheard."

"So what you are saying is that both Robert and Ruth are lying. They both stated within 48 hours of each other, more than eight months later, that he, Robert, shouted, 'No, I love Charlie,' before storming out of the house."

Mrs. Kean doesn't say anything. She looks toward Ruth and Charlie. She then looks toward her husband, who can't even look at her and has his head in his hands. Her eyes fill up with tears as she then looks at me. "I'm so sorry. I didn't know this was going to happen."

"STOP!" Mr. Kean stands up.

"Order in the court!" the Judge shouts.

But Mr. Kean stays standing and looks at his wife. "Stop lying, and tell the truth for a change. A young boy almost died because of it."

"Mr. Kean. I will not warn you again."

"I'm sorry, your honor. I would like to change my plea to guilty. I do not want to see any more pain caused to my family."

The Judge orders the Jury out while he sorts everything out. He's not happy that we've had a week's trial, and only now has Mr. Kean changed his plea. He calls the Jury back in.

"Right, I have made a decision. Mrs. Kean, you may step down.....Members of the Jury. This has been a case that I have found particularly difficult to hear. I will send you to deliberate but instruct you to return a guilty verdict."

"All rise," the Jury walks out, looking a little confused, but do as instructed. They return half an hour later and deliver their guilty verdict.

My mother leans forward, "Christ that means he will get the maximum."

*******

We are sat in our usual lunchtime watering hole. We have to return for the sentencing, but I am progressively more uncomfortable as the lunch gets consumed, and I just want to get out.

Bec is the one who notices. She doesn't make a scene, but wraps her legs around one of mine and squeezes. This small act makes me look deep into her eyes, and this one small gesture shows me she sees my pain.

As soon as I finish my food and put my knife and fork down, she asks, "Rob, is there any chance we could go for a walk?"

"We've got to be back in court in forty minutes," my mother comments.

"I think I've had enough of court," I say. "I don't need to see him get punished."

We get up and walk out. Jenny comes outside with Bec and me, out of sight of Nathaniel, and puts her arms around me.

"Thanks for coming, Jenny."

"You are most welcome, and I got to meet Bec. I can see why you like her."

"What other than she's gorgeous?"

Jenny rolls her eyes. "Yes, other than her looks, she's a wonderful person." Jenny smiles at me and kisses me on the lips. "You're still going to hell, though," she says, half-smiling.

I can only smile back, "I will write as soon as the dust settles."

"You'd better." She kisses me and I kiss her back before releasing our embrace. Jenny heads back in as we turn and head to the car park.

We drive the short distance to The Imperial. Walking hand in hand up to the third floor, we look at each other before Bec unlocks her door.

Bec doesn't say a word as she strips me down to my boxers before leading me to bed. Stripping herself then climbing in next to me, she pulls me into her. We lay there, still not saying anything as tears start to fall. The true impact of the week catches up and overwhelms me.

I must have drifted off because the next thing I know is the toilet flushing and the sound of Bec washing her hands.

"Hello, sleepy," she says as she walks back naked. I can't help but watch her breasts sway as she gets back into bed next to me. "Why are men so fascinated with these?" She asks, cupping a tit in each hand.

"Don't know, but they're fun to play with."

I look deep into her beautiful eyes as she moves up so we are lying face to face. I lean forward and kiss her tenderly, taking Bec a little by surprise.

"What was that for?"

"For everything. Coming to support me, being so special, and holding me earlier."

"Mmmmm," she replies, not quite sure what to say.

There's a moment of silence. We look at each other's faces, deep into each other's eyes. The tips of our noses are about two inches apart, and I can feel her breath tickle me.

Again I lean in, and this time Bec meets me halfway. Our lips again tenderly kiss, and a groan escapes her. Bec maneuvers herself on top as our passion rises. I marvel at the feeling of her soft flesh pressed against me, and the way we slot together as her legs part and her crotch settles on mine.

Bec breaks the kiss. "Do you mind if we just fuck?"

I'm not sure if it was just how she views sex or just the way she talks, but we didn't just fuck. We slowly made love, deeply kissing and pushing our pelvises together in a rhythmic dance. I can't tell you how long we did this, but I was about to explode inside her when her orgasm erupted. This caused me to squeeze Bec tightly into me and hold on for dear life as my orgasm intensified a thousand times.

We lay there recovering with Bec still on top and my cock stopping any leakage. Bec is looking at me wistfully and playing with my unruly hair.

"I'll tell you what we are going to do tomorrow. We are going into town to get you a haircut and some clothes that are a little more suitable."

"Suitable for what?"

"Suitable, so people look at you with more respect."

"What's wrong with my clothes?"

"Rob, they are not right for you, baby. Your frame needs something to enhance your build, so you stop looking better naked."

The morning dawns, and we are up, showered, and fed before nine. "Not very rock and roll porn star," I say to Bec.

"Add that to the list of reasons I like being with you." She smiles at me as she packs her bag, ready to leave. "I'm packing now, so we can spend the day and night together. I will need to be on my way to the airport by half three in the morning. You will take me, won't you?"

"Sure, no problem," I answer as she tries to close her case.

We walk into town and walk around looking for a hairdresser. Once Bec is satisfied with her choice, she sits there telling the guy what she has in mind. I sit there enjoying the attention.

I watch the hairdresser looking at Bec in the mirror. He sees that I've spotted him looking. He smiles awkwardly. "Sorry, your girlfriend is the spit of Lisa Lovegood."

"Yes I know, we get that all the time."

He nods his head and says, "Oh."

I see Bec look at me and smile that beautiful smile the she does when she's happy.

It's lunchtime, and we are walking toward the cinema. As we turn the corner, I tell Bec about the cafe and my meeting with Charlie.

"Shall we go in for some lunch?" Bec asks.

"Sure, if you don't mind a greasy spoon," I reply. Bec beams at me.

I am disappointed that the guys aren't there, but I guess it's a little early. We order our food and drink and sit in one of the cubicles. I am facing the door with Bec facing me. As we eat and talk, the door opens. In walks Clive and Nick. They are talking animatedly about something and don't spot me straight away.

I give Bec the heads up, and she sneaks a look. Finally, they stop talking, order their food and look around for a place to sit. Nick's eyes instantly lock onto mine, and I nod an 'alright' to him. He immediately hits Clive to get his attention and nods toward me.

Clive walks over, smiling. "Hello Rob, long time no......Nice hair cut." He stops when he's only feet away and realizes that Bec isn't someone he knows.

Clive's eyes go wide. "High Clive, this is my friend Bec. Bec, this is Clive, and the guy hiding behind him is Nick."

Bec smiles and says, "Nice to meet you both."

Clive turns to Nick, "See, I told you Sharon wasn't lying."

Now it's Nick's turn to look surprised as he sees Bec close up for the first time.

"Are you and Sharon still together?" I say in a way to surprised voice.

"Yes, she should be here soon. She has been over Charlie's all morning."

"We didn't stay for the sentencing. Rob was getting a little overwhelmed." Bec says. "Would you boys like to join us," she adds when she notices them not quite know how to stand.

"Yeah, why not?" Clive says.

Bec shuffles round next to me, and the two get in opposite.

"So what did the judge give him in the end, community service?"

"No, actually," said a voice from behind Nick. I hadn't noticed Sharon walk in with Michelle. "The Judge gave him five years. He wasn't impressed with Mr. Kean taking the law into his own hands."

"He'll be out in two and a half," Bec adds.

Sharon hadn't seen Bec, and she stops in her tracks.

"Sharon, this is Bec. Bec, this is Clive's girlfriend, Sharon."

"Hello Sharon, it's nice to meet a female friend he hasn't fucked." Bec says a bit harshly.

"Why, who else has he been screwing?" Clive asks.

"Never you mind," I say.

Then Sharon says, "He hooked up with Charlie again, and she said he has screwed Jenny a couple of times."

"Christ, isn't anyone's life private?" I ask.

"Not mine," Bec says. She smiles at Sharon and continues to eat her meal as everyone else's food turns up.

"So, when are you going back to the states," Nick suddenly asks Bec.

"This guy would be blind today if he had known he would be sharing a table with you, Miss Lovegood," Clive says.

"It's Bec to you guys." She smiles and then replies to the question, "I leave early tomorrow. Got a shoot to get back for."

"So, what are you here for?" Sharon asks.

"To support Rob, he needed me."

"Wow, I bet that went down with your parents well," Clive says.

"Surprisingly, she even got an invite to stay when she's in Kent next."

"Did they realize who she is?"

"Yep, Mum recognized her straight away."

"What can I say? His mother is as accepting as Rob is."

We finish our meals and say our farewells to the guys. "Time to hit the shops," Bec says, looping her arm through mine.

We spend the afternoon walking around the town center. Fosters, Marks and Spencer, Top Shop, there are also several smaller shops that Bec seems to think were a little dull, but you get the idea.

"Rob, I will take you to all the best shops when you come to LA and kit you out properly."

"Is that an invite to the states?"

"Damn, right it is," Bec says with the biggest grin. We walk back to the hotel arm in arm, carrying my bags.

We spend Bec's last night in her room, order room service and just hang out. There's no chance of sleep.

We load the car, and the mood changes as soon as I pull out of the petrol station. I head towards the motorway, and we settle into the hour and a half drive to Heathrow airport.

Bec is looking sad and has been quiet for a while. "Are you okay, Bec?"

"Yeah, don't like goodbyes." She puts her hand on mine. "Saying goodbye to you is the hardest."

"Just make sure you keep in touch," I say. I indicate into the left-hand lane of the M4 turn-off.

*******

It's the Monday after the court case. Bec and Jenny have both returned home. Bec left me with tears streaming down both our faces. This last week has been the best and the worst."

I have decided to focus on my work. I haven't heard from Charlie and wonder if her father's sentence has affected us. As I go through a payroll program that isn't working, my mind drifts to Bec. Something has changed between us; the last time we made love is a testament to that.

I hear the phone ring. "Hello, Johnson's residence," my Mother says. "Oh, hello, dear. How was your flight?" That got my attention. "Really? I'll call him down........Robert......Rebecca is on the phone, and hurry. It can't be cheap phoning from LA."

"Hey, Bec. How was your trip home?"

"Lonely," she says. "Rob, I haven't got long." She sounds a little flustered.

"Okay, Bec, are you okay?"

"I thought I would tell you that I will be making the storyboard for next month's Playboy."

"Bec, don't worry about it. I'm sure I'll live. Do I get a signed copy?"

"Of course, I'll put one in the post." She's then distracted by someone on her end. "Shit, I got to go," she says in a hurry. Without letting me answer, she adds. "Bye, Rob, I love you," and she hangs up.

I sit there for about thirty seconds before I replace the receiver. I'm stunned; Bec just told me she loves me. It takes me a couple more minutes to conclude that she just meant as a friend. Let's keep this real it's not the first time, she told my mother she loved me.

The rest of the week goes by without much happening. I still haven't heard from Charlie, and I am getting a little worried. According to Mrs. Kean next door, they never returned after the trial.

Friday is hot, and as the sun sinks in the sky, I make my way next door to pick up an excited Archie. As I walk out of Mrs. Kean's gate, I hear a door slam.

Crossing the road, I see Jill walking up her drive to meet me. "Am I getting some company on my walk tonight?"

"If you don't mind, Rob. I've been stuck in all day and just got Aaron down."

"Of course not. It'll be nice to talk to someone."

She smiles, happy with my answer, "I like the new look. You're turning into a handsome man," she says as we make our way to the end of the road.

"Thanks," I say as I look away. Still not good with compliments.

As I open the gate for her, I get a smile. "So, how are you after the trial?"

"I think the trial has helped me draw a line under the whole thing. The sentence Mr. Kean got was never the important part." I let Archie off his lead, and we walk up the steady incline towards the ridge. "So, how are you coping with everything?"

"What everything?" Jill says as she places a hand on her bump.

"Mmmm," I manage. "We haven't talked about this properly."

"You've been at the other end of the country, which makes it a little easier. You should have seen Jack's face when I told him."

"You seem to be okay about it. Are you hoping for a little girl?"

"That would be the icing. I am ashamed to say, though, I am missing you more than I should."

"Is that what tonight is about?"

"Yeah, it's not the sex I'm missing so much as the company on the drive to school." She moves closer and loops her arm around mine. "I'm going to ask you to babysit tomorrow night. One of Jack's colleagues is getting married and with you here, it will give us a chance to go."

"Nice to be wanted," I say as we reach the top. "So, will you need me for your anniversary?"

"I think we are going up to see my parents now. So thank you, but no."

"Not regretting your decision to have children are you?"

"Oh god no, it's been incredible. I will never be able to repay you for this."

I sit there looking out over the town for a minute. "I think the fact Jack has stopped drinking and, once again, you are happy is enough. I don't need anything."

"I know, but my hormones and emotions are all over the place, so I have to say something." She shifts uncomfortably.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I think this one's going to be a gymnast or something. She won't keep still."

"She?" Jill smiles at me.

"I can hope, can't I? Ohhhh, wanna feel?" She doesn't wait for an answer and grabs my hand. "Can you feel that?"

"Barely, but yeah. Isn't it a little early?"

"No, we are in week 26, nearly 27." Jill takes the opportunity and kisses me tenderly from where I am leaning in.

"Jill, you.....we can't do that."

"I know, but......."

"Jill, there can't be any buts. You are married and love your husband. He loves you back.......we can't."

"Just hear me out, Rob, please." I stay silent, not knowing what she can say that will change anything. "At this moment, I am carrying a second miracle inside me. I know I am not in love with you, but I love you for what you have given me. I need to express to you somehow this love, and that was the only way I could think of." I sit there and look back out over the town, thinking. "It was just a kiss, Rob."

"I get that you see me in a special light, and that is fine. Jill, what we did at New Year was wrong. I feel I should have told you no, but.....you caught me at the wrong time. We need to return to a platonic relationship with no kissing other than cheeks. Jill......I do love you as a friend and value the fact you have been in my life. You have had more influence on my life than anyone alive, and that is what you have given me in return."

"Does that include your sexual prowess?"

"Christ.....you have truly created a monster there."

"I think the monster was already there. He just needed the right guidance." We get up and head back slowly.

"Rob, I know you are right, and I will behave. Thank you for not taking advantage of my vulnerability. So, talking of your sexual prowess. Who was the stunner you were with when you spoke to Jack?"

"That is one of my best friends, Bec."

"Friend?"

I tell Jill about Bec, how we met, and who she is. We get to the gate as I finish.

"Wow, a Playboy girl....Rob, you sound like you like her."

"When we first met, nothing was there, but when we were alone this time....I don't know....it seems to have changed for both of us. The problem is, and will always be, her choice of career."

"I'm sure it will sort itself one way or the other." We stop at the top of her drive. "This is me," she says.

I look at the For Sale sign. "Any closer to the Sold sign?"

"Yeah, just waiting on the surveyor, and we will be off."

"Don't leave without a forwarding address."

"Never, still got some years of babysitting ahead of you yet."

The front door opens, and a crying Aaron breaks the silence. We both look toward the door as Jack seems a little forlorn. "I think someone needs a rest."

"Yeah, typical man. He can't survive more than ten minutes without help." She smiles at her husband's helpless find and then turns back to me. "Can you be over at six tomorrow?"

"Sure, see you then." I wave to Jack and then turn towards the Kean house.

*******

Babysitting Aaron was again another none event. He was awake longer but after we played for a while, had a feed, change of nappy, and went to bed. If only all children were the same. The only thing of note was Jack seemed to be very impressed that I know Lisa Lovegood. I gave Jill a look when he patted me on the shoulder.
