Good start, but she never looks the creature in the eye. Is there intelligence there? I think any woman with compassion would.

One additional thought about the story. It's perhaps the first fairytale, but the in the 1946 movie by famed French director Jean Cocteau, he wanted the audience to be disappointing when the Beast transformed back into the human Prince. This was because the Beast represents the risk of life and adventure with all of its flaws, where as the "perfect Prince" has none. In reality, no such people exist, and the Prince is the real fairytale.
