It's at the same time incredibly messed up and inspirational: 2 extreme personalities neutralizing each other so that the final result is in the end way less toxic than the most abusive vanilla relationships out there. Makes you think about what is really the best for each of us as individuals. Is mainstream life the magic one size fits all solution for everyone's happiness? (That's a rhetorical question...). If people for some reason have no way to be happy, can we at least make their life worth living? A little satisfying? Feeling utterly useless and unwanted is one of the worst things for the human psyche.
