Yet even as their long night of rape and torment together continued, the mother's inmost thoughts never wavered. She had steeped herself in the fantasy of what was happening, in what she had arranged tonight, so deeply that she'd gone through all the motions like a perfect actress and embraced her character, her role in all this, to absolute perfection.
Because there was something Charlotte hadn't told Skylar. Something dark and more than a little disturbing...
Charlotte knew. Charlotte KNEW why she'd had to do this... why she'd had to hire these men to burst in on them, to take her and her daughter together. She knew because this was nothing less than what she deserved for dishonoring her husband's memory by deserting her children. And, through an even more twisted kind of reasoning, Charlotte knew that experiencing this harrowing experience with Skylar would bring her and her daughter closer together. This was the only way that Charlotte knew to bridge the gulf between them. Terrible as it was, real good would come out of all this trauma. Charlotte felt certain of it.
In a twisted mind ravaged by grief and its own strange desires, Charlotte felt justified. It didn't matter that none of it made any real sense. It didn't matter that she was hurting her own daughter in the process. The ends justified the means. And in the end? Well, in the end, Charlotte cared about just one thing - getting her daughter back and becoming a family again, no matter how many wounds or scars it took.

I hope you liked the twist ending and reveal of Charlotte's questionable version of sanity. I've been wanting to experiment with telling an unreliable narrator or unreliable heroine perspective for a while now. I suppose in Charlotte's defense, sometimes severely damaged people think they're doing something for the right reasons, and severely damaged people also sometimes convince themselves they're acting out of love when it's something far more sinister or petty or disturbing.
Family Estranged was originally planned as a two-shot story but has turned into something more. I have two more chapters almost finished and ready for publishing. We may see Charlotte's hired home invaders take things further than originally envisioned, especially if some of Charlotte's other family members or their significant others accidentally get caught up in the action.
Constructive suggestions and ideas are always welcome. What do you think? What should happen next? Should I have Skylar find out about her mother's dark and disturbing secret role in all this? Should Skylar's brother, Zane, or Zane's girlfriend, Mia, get caught up in things too? I hope to write some more twists and turns as time and readers' creative suggestions allow.

Anonymous5 months agoIt is absolutely nonsense when the victims enjoy their rape, but a mother orchestring a rape is unbeleavable. Sorry, zero points from the german voters.
Edthegent5 months agoLove your work, but the end to this story seemed a little rushed and literally came out of nowhere and didn't make much sense to me.
Anonymous5 months agoI think it would help the story if the daughter discovers what her sick in the head mother did when she refuses to join her in ridding their bodies of their rapists bastards. It forces the mother to reveal her sick plot to gain a closer relationship. It backfires as the daughter seeks revenge against her and the two men. Maybe she plans the same thing for their rapists wives and daughters. The rapists are tazed and secured, along with mommy, while thugs Skylar hired, are unleashed on the rapists innocent family members. Obviously, crazy as her mother, the daughter faces her mom and attackers and says, "always know who you're fucking with.". Just a thought.
