We fell together on the bed, holding each other.

"Did I do well Mama Pixie?"

I laughed.

"My darling, given how little experience you have, all I can say is that you are a natural!"

"Oh Mama! Thank you! I like being good at things."

I hugged her tight.

"Oh Mama, before I forget, I have to go the Foreign Office tomorrow afternoon if that's okay?"

"Of course, darling, are you seeing your Pa? I can pop down too, Archie works there too."

"Oh lovely, Mama. Yes, I am doing Pa's Ribb letters."

My ears suddenly pricked up.

"Ribb - as in Ribbentrop, the German ambassador?"

"Yes Mama, Pa's German is rubbish, so I translate them and copy them for him and his chums."

"Chums?"

"Yes Mama. The 'English patriots.' His chums who also like Hitler."

"Could you do me a favour darling?"

"Of course Mama," she said, cuddling into me."

"Could you let me have copies too?"

"Of course Mama. Is this for your work in the Lords?"

"Yes, my darling!"

"Ooh Mama I am like Greenmantle, a spy?"

"My spy my darling."

"Good-o Mama!"
