Chapter 44

Monday, 4th February, 1985

A quick breakfast in the deli of pancakes and sausage wraps then coffee for his tummy and thermos and he's away.

It's clear this morning but there's quite an accumulation of fresh snow and frequent closures because of slides. It takes him four hours to make Butte and he's not sure he can make Spokane tonight. He pulls in at Deer Lodge for a late lunch at 12:45 local time. It's I90 Auto/Truck Plaza (Conoco) at Deer Lodge and he eats quickly. He's still in Montana and getting tired of it.

It's after four and dark when he pulls into Missoula and parks at the pumps of the Pilot Town Pump Milltown plaza. He fuels up and decides that this is it for today. According to other truckers the road is open to Spokane but he's just too beat to push on. It's another three hours driving time in the summer with good roads. No telling how long this time of year. He goes inside.

"Well hi there, I don't recall seeing you here before. I'm Mike Claymore." He's chatting with a cute baby faced blonde with innocent brown eyes who looks to be sixteen, five, five high and a 34B at least.

She grins with cute dimples in her cheeks, "I'm Baby Lizza and that's all you're getting, so there." She looks back at the kitchen, "So what do you want? Please be quick, I'm due to be relieved and I want to catch a bus, so I don't want to be late."

"Which bus?" He sees she's agitated so he says, "How about a beef sandwich au jus?"

"Spokane and that's great. I'll be right back."

She brings back his sandwich and she has her jacket with her. "Here you go. Enjoy."

"Still no relief? What's so important?"

"I'm off till the weekend and I'm going home. If my relief is late I'll never forgive her." She paces agitatedly. "Damn! There's my bus and he won't wait long. She should be here twenty minutes ago. Damn!"

"So what is your name? Lizza or what?"

"I told you." she grins, "I'm Baby. I'm Baby Lizza." she looks defiant.

"So how old are you, baby, fourteen or fifteen?"

"Hee hee, I'm eighteen." She doesn't look it but he doesn't argue. The place is emptying out as people go to the bus.

"Maybe your relief is on the bus."

"Ah shit! I'm getting so pissed at her. She better come through that door or else!" She stomps her foot.

Mike sees a puff of exhaust and says, "Too late, there he goes."

She flops in the chair beside him, "Aw damn!" She watches the bus pull out onto the highway. She looks Mike over, "Did you want anything else?"

"Maybe a smile for dessert."

She smiles, "I'm sorry, I'm just so teed off with that relief of mine. She's been late every night this week but she knew I wanted to go home tonight. I guess I shouldn't take it out on you."

"Why not, I've got broad shoulders."

She looks him over again, "You do have broad shoulders. How about that. Hi Mike, it's nice to meet you." She offers her hand for a shake but he takes it and presses his lips to her palm. She tenses and then relaxes and smiles. "How amusing, Mike. I think I like you."

He nods, "Is that your relief?" She glances and nods in disgust. "Then hurry up and get relieved so we can get on the road for Spokane."

"You'll take me? I thought you were parked for the night. Oh wow, I'll be right back." Mike mutters to himself, 'Ah ha, the white knight rides again.'

It isn't long until he's on the highway again and bucking snow drifts. He thinks he's crazy but then he glances across the seat and smiles. He listens to the CB and manages to make pretty good time. He can see that he'll make it in two and a half hours.

"Why did you decide to take me? Were you looking to get in my pants?" she grins at him.

"Of course, that's what I do. I look for stranded girls and arrange to take advantage of them. How did you guess?" he leers back at her.

"Well, you better start pretty soon then. We're not that far from Spokane, you know." He notes she's rubbing her crotch and a breast laying back in the seat.

"You know that works a lot better if you take your clothes off." He raises and lowers his eyebrows like a letch and she laughs. She sloughs off her dress top and pulls her bra up over her head.

"Do you mean like that?" She hikes her dress up around her waist and raises her rump on her back pushing her panties down to her knees. She peeks between her legs at him with a big smile. "You mean like this, don't you!" She rubs her pussy and a breast freely moaning.

"Hey, that works, I'm looking for a place to park." He slows as he catches her eye on him between her legs with her panties around her ankles in the air. "Oh God, you better be eighteen and on the pill!"

In Coeur d'Alene he finds a spot out of sight in a mall parking lot and parks. "In all fairness, we're in Coeur d'Alene Baby so I could take you into Spokane if you want. I don't want you to do anything feeling I'm forcing it on you."

"Shut up, I'm waiting!"

So he closes off the lights and strips. She is very ready for him so they couple and quickly drive each other into a climax that reverberates throughout the cab. Then he shows her his bedroom setup and they settle for the night.

Tuesday, February 5th, 1985

He stirs around four thirty and she stretches. "Is that for me?" He nods and she whispers, "I have to piss."

"How be I put a plug in it?" She nods with a grin.

"Just don't lay on me, you'll squeeze the piss out of me."

"Do you want to slip out and pee by the trailer in the shadows?"

"Will you go with me?" He nods so they open the far door and slip down into the shadows. He holds her hand so she can maintain her balance and she pees freely. He dances back so it doesn't puddle under him and she giggles. "Hurry up, I'm done."

"I still have a hard on, I can't pee yet. Hop back up and I'll be right with you. Here, I'll help you." He catches her around the waist to lift her and she grabs his organ quickly sliding her hand up and down it. "Hey, don't do that! I'll never pee."

"Uh huh," she giggles some more playing with him.

"You better stop!" he warns her, but she continues so he backs her up against the fender of the truck and lifts her leg. Before she realizes what he's about he has slipped inside her and is banging her against the truck. "I warned you!" She laughs and kisses him wrapping her leg around him. After some spirited humping they part and he waits a moment to piss. They climb back up into the cab and fuck some more.

"Mike, how often do you come through here?"

"About every three weeks, I think. It's a six day run and three days rest at each end so that's eighteen days but you have weather and special destinations that can change each load. I think three weeks is a good estimate. Why?"

"You make me really horny. I don't even understand it but you just turn me on. I'd love if you came my way every trip. I'd do anything to make time for you. Do you feel it, too?"

"I usually stop at Butte for the night and Spokane for lunch the next day on my way to Vancouver Island, Canada that night. I don't usually stop at Missoula at all."

"But you could and I could go with you and we could spend the night together, wouldn't you like that?"

"But I'd be going through Missoula early in the morning."

"Don't you like a 'nooner'?"

"Let's go for breakfast and I'll think on it." They get dressed and drive on into Spokane to the Broadway Flying J to eat. "I tell you what, I will stop next time I'm through and if you still feel like it we'll give it a try. How's that?"

"I can hardly wait. Now don't you forget me."

"You're one baby I would have a hard time forgetting."

"Okay, I'll watch for you. That's my Mom coming in the door. Do you want to meet her?" She looks at him glumly.

He laughs, "I guess not."

"Yeah! I love you. Bye." and she runs off.

With breakfast out of the way he heads for Seattle and the Canadian border at Whiterock. It takes seven hours so he arrives at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal around one PM local time. He relaxes on the ferry and watches the islands float by.

At 1400 (2 PM) he arrives on Vancouver Island at Swartz Bay and another hour sees him at CFB Esquimalt. He drops his trailer, gets some signatures and checks with dispatch.

"Hey, I'm here. What've you got?"

"Hi Mike, it's the usual. You're off tomorrow, Thursday and Friday then we have a load from here to... uh, no, that's not right. Hang on." He bends over his charts, "Do you want to take one to Prince Rupert?"

"When? Do you mean now?"

"Yeah, tomorrow morning. We have a ship in there and there's a change of personnel so we have a bunch of personal effects to take up and a bunch of supplies. Coming back down, let's see now, hmm... it looks like that stuff coming down is coming to Kamloops Sea Cadets. Okay so you could take your three days there or go to CFB Calgary and take your rest days there. Your choice.

We have a move from Calgary to Borden and one from there to CFS Leitrim, Ottawa. Hmm, it's a long bobtail back down to Millhaven but it doesn't look like we have a choice. Pick up a load there for Halifax. what do you think?"

"How be I take that load for Prince George tonight and stop at my in-laws on the mainland tonight? I'll head on up in the morning from Abbotsford. Can we do that?"

"Okay, I'll get them loading it now. Should be ready in a few hours. How's that?" Mike nods. "What about your rest days, Kamloops or Calgary?"

"Can I decide that when I get there? I'm leaning towards Kamloops."

"Okay, I'm putting you in for Kamloops and if you change it let the DO there know what you're doing."

"Let me make sure I have it. Today is the 5th so I go to Prince Rupert on the 6th back to Kamloops on 7th. 8th,9th and 10th off so Monday, 11th I make a pickup in Calgary for Borden, a pickup in Borden for Ottawa then back to Millhaven for a load to Halifax. Is that right?"

"I think you got, by George, you got it!" he sings with a lilt.

"Are you going to sing me the whole opera?" he winks and they laugh together. "I'll check back with you in a few hours. I have to fuel up yet." So Mike goes off and fills his tanks and then he parks and fiddles with the radio. His paperwork is up to date so he's bored. He flips on the CB and hears quite a bit of activity on 19. He just listens for a while and washes up his bedding that's getting crusty with cum. He pops them in the dryer.

He gets an idea, "Breaker, breaker 19. Hey Kamloops Helen, have you got your ears on? Go!" He listens and tries again, "Break, breaker 19. Kamloops Helen, can you read me? Go!" He's ready to give up on it when he hears, "Who we got there looking for Helen? Come on back to Denver Pete!" It's a gruff male voice with a southern accent.

"Hey Denver, you got Halifax Mike on this end, Go!"

"Long way from home, aren't you, Mike. Come on!"

"I'm on Vancouver Island, Denver. What's your 20? Go!"

"Coming up on Vancouver, Mike. Helen's in there. You can't read her, I guess. Come on!"

"Nope, I can't read her at all. I've got a Realistic emergency CB and it don't have much oomph. Can you patch through to her? Go!"

"I'll give it a try. I was on with her less than a half hour ago. Hang on, Mike." He hears a crash and then, "Breaker 19, Kamloops Helen, are you there for Denver, come on back?" Mike doesn't hear anything but he listens. "Yeah, got a buddy wants me to pass you a message, gal. Says he's Halifax Mike. Come on!" That hiss and crash again. "Mike, can you read her? Come on!"

"Not at all, Denver. Could you tell me her 20. I'm going her way tomorrow if she needs a ride. Go!"

"Ho, ho, like that is it. She out at Laidlaw truck stop near Hope. You know it? Come on!" He's chuckling.

"I don't know if it's like that or not but I know where Laidlaw truck stop is."

"Don't kill the messenger. She said it and she can read you. She's asking what time. I guess she means to pick her up there. Go ahead"

"I'll be on the road early from Abbotsford so around seven local time. Go!"

"She'll be there and she can tell you the rest in the morning. I'm out of here, Mike. Good luck!" He signs off with more chuckling.

"Thanks Pete, I'm out!" He listens to the chatter a while then mutters, "I guess I have a date." He shuts it down and vows to get himself a real CB with some power. He checks out the mess hall and grabs a coffee then back for his bedding and then to dispatch.

"Hey Mike, there you are. It must be ready to go, do you know where Supply is?" Mike nods. "Check with them, they're loading the supplies up for the Mirimichi. Consider yourself lucky you don't have to bring those Sea Cadets back down with you," he chuckles.

"Yeah, I hear you. I'll check with you on my way out."

Mike goes to Supply and they are just getting ready to close up the trailer. It's a short one so Mike asks to check it before they close it. He finds everything is on pallets and is secure. They close it up and Mike signs for it. He hooks up and pulls it to dispatch.

"Looks like you're good to go, Mike. Lots of luck, guy."

Mike leaves and heads for Swartz Bay and the ferry to the mainland. When he reaches the landing he joins the lineup and spots a payphone. He goes to call Marlene's parents and tell them he's in the area for the night. They insist he spend the night with them.

He enjoys the crossing knowing he has a place for the night and an itinerary to get him back home. The lush green of the islands and the Fraser Valley lull him into thinking it's like spring. There's a rude shock waiting for him beyond Hope. This area of the coast comprising Seattle to Vancouver is a semi tropical environment due to the Japanese current that flows directly onto the coast from Japan and Hawaii.

He comes ashore and heads for Clearbrook/Abbotsford in the Fraser Valley. His trailer is a shorter one so he has no problem finding room for it along side the driveway at the McRae's. Mike shuts it down and goes in the house. He's been informed that Abbotsford and Clearbrook have passed an ordinance against leaving the truck running overnight.

It's an anti-pollution measure that is being enacted in many communities and information is being promulgated through truck stops. He's not sure where he heard about it but he knows that the Fraser Valley has been discussing these measures and their ramifications on Truck Stop owners. Some truck stops have considered providing heated rooms to drivers and since many now provide showers it's not too much of a stretch.

Thomas has met Mike on the porch and they chat as they go in the house. Nancy greets him in the kitchen with a fresh cup of coffee and tells him Jen has been visiting with Marlene today. "She's waiting for you to call her, Mike."

"It's after eleven Halifax time. Are you sure she wants me to call tonight?"

"I told her you'd be in. It wasn't long after you called. What ever you think, Mike."

"I guess I better give her a call. I'll make it collect."

"Don't you dare. It's our phone and our daughter. You just call her direct."

"Thanks Mom. You're too good to us, you know. We have to learn to cope on our own." He dials his home number then hangs up before it rings. "Mom, what do you think about Jen? Is she trouble or a childhood friend?"

"She will bear watching, Mike. She could be a lot of trouble or she might not but the potential's there. Marlene is strong enough to not be lead easily but she trusts too much." she adds, "After all, she trusts you. What do you think?"

He stares at her, "You think she's misjudged in my case?"

"Only you know that for sure, Mike. Has she?"

He looks troubled as he dials his home number. "Hi dear, I'm at your mom's. How are things?"

"You sound tired. How did you get there so fast? I didn't think you'd make it today."

"I got some breaks in the weather so I took advantage of them. What's new?"

"Jen's here. She's at the basic training place where we went before you left. She was in a few minutes today. It was nice to see her again." She catches her breath. "Does that mean you'll be home sooner now?"

"I doubt it, love. They've given me a real rough set of trips to get home. I have to go up to almost the border of Alaska to Prince Rupert then back down to Kamloops. Can you find that on your Atlas?"

"I see it. That's a long way. Is that three days driving?"

"Anyway when I get back down to Kamloops I have my three day weekend either there or in Calgary where I have my next pickup. Then I have a load to Ontario then another to Ottawa and then pick up a load for Halifax. I think they'll owe me four days rest then. Hell, I think they'll owe me that after I get back from the Great White North!"

"Oh Mike, will you ever get home? Are you only staying one night at mom's then?"

"Yep, I guess that's it. I have to be on my way in the morning. I have the load in the driveway now."

"At mom and dad's?"

"Yeah, that's where I am."

"Well, I'm well and missing you like crazy. I think I've gained another ten pounds. If you don't hurry you won't recognize me. I have to pee so I better say bye for now."

"Marlene, I love you. Go and pee. Take good care of yourself and I'll be home as fast as I can. Goodnight love."

"Mmm, I love you. Night."

"So she's okay then." It's Nancy and she goes to the kitchen.

Mike follows her, "Were you eavesdropping?"

"Of course, how else would I know what my family's doing? Have some coffee."

"Do you really not trust me?"

"Mike, I think you love her to the best of your ability... but it's the best of your ability I don't trust. I think you feel that you do love her and I think you care for her a lot. Please don't ever hurt her, that's all I ask."

"I do love her, you know." She nods and goes about warming him up some supper. He enjoys another evening of family life and sleeps in his wife's old room.

Chapter 45

Wednesday 6th of February, 1985

Six AM and he starts the diesel clunking. It's a bit smoky and noisy as it starts so he leaves it off as long as he can but he has to get going. He's already eaten breakfast and loaded his gear so by six ten he's rolling to the freeway and by seven he's pulling into the Husky truck stop in Laidlaw. He dashes into J's Cafe and Helen runs to meet him.

"I was sure it was you!" She jumps on him and kisses him. He laughs and swings her around. He orders coffee and at her insistence, makes it to go.

"Well, let's go then but I warn you now, I'm taking the scenic route. I'm on my way to Prince Rupert then back to Kamloops. Are you still game?"

"Oh Mike, that's at least three days. Why not, let's do it. What's up in that God forsaken country?"

He boosts her up, "A Navy minesweeper named HMCS Mirimichi that's anchored in Prince Rupert Harbor. It's a training vessel and has a bunch of Kamloops sea cadets aboard just completing their training. They need supplies and transportation of their effects back to Kamloops."

Mike climbs aboard and they're off heading up the Fraser Canyon following the Fraser River to Yale, Spuzzum, Hells Gate and Boston Bar driving a highway hanging over the railway and the river in many places in the narrow canyon. They pass through the many tunnels and are lucky the weather is with them so far. Even though heavy laden the trailer is short and nimble so they travel fast and easy.

"What can you sell me, Helen. I think you've converted me to a CB nut. I found it was helpful as well as company in a recent spot I was in, in a storm in Quebec. What's a good basic unit?"

"A truck unit for this rig? I'd go with a Uniden PC 68. I think with a 4 or 5 foot Francis antenna and some decent co-ax cable like RG58 to hook it up with. Also I'd hook the power direct from your battery for noise reduction and I'd feed your audio output to your radio speakers or a set of hifi speakers for best sound quality. Have I lost you?"
