Not read all of this story yet, but thought I'd make a comment that you might find interesting. Bram Stoker wrote Dracula while staying at a place called Cruden Bay, in Scotland (though he set much of it in Whitby Bay). Funnily enough Cruden Bay is very close to where I live. This is Slains castle (see link) that overlooks Cruden Bay and you'll get the idea:
