"This ain't no girl, she's a lady and in fact she's is my lady and her name is Kathy" Wade quietly but firmly replied to his father.

Mr. Rutherford's face changed as made direct eye contact with Kathy for the first time.

"Well I hope Lady Kathy and the girls are hungry, so how do you like your steak cooked dear?" he asked with a hidden smile and in a much softer tone.

She thought about how she had been a vegan until Dedee changed all that and started to see why she had been so insistent.

"Medium rare? She responded with a question in her voice hoping it was what he wanted to hear.

Mr. Rutherford responded "Then I'll try not to overcook it" as he turned to walk towards the house with a smile. She felt he saw right through her answer.

Wade grabbed her hand in his and walked her to the table where the girls waited seeing a cooler on the table now.
