The dichotomy of Julie declaring how much she treasure Steven, yet does nothing but degrade him (no matter how sweetly she talks), is, I assume, one of those confusing things about human nature.

I confess to not understanding this mindset, and I’m fairly contemptuous of those who practice this lifestyle, on all sides.
