Keep it up, and please don't give in to the temptation, which many writers feel, to deviate from the essence of your plot! You've set great fundamentals, stick to them! You don't need multi-chapter diversions into some irrelevant side-issue or side-character, you don't need diversions into the "origins" of the Count, Jules, or anybody else. You've set Jewel up brilliantly, now just keep doing what you're doing, until you reach the conclusion which you know is the right one!
