Do not EVER leave someone tied up alone. Especially in the back of a van. What if something unexpected happens and you're gone for a few hours, and they die of heat stroke? What if someone breaks into the van and finds them while you're gone?

I understand the desire for a bit of dehumanization as a freedom from the bullshite of life. I can't wrap myself around poor use of pet or tool, real or pretend. This master probably has rusty tools, broken blades and a messy tool kit. Your story is nicely written, I just didn't care for the particulars.
