EVEnTS Ch. 17 - Moving

Eve has an idea.

She calls Cindy, explains the whole situation, and asks if she and Nikki (Nick) could pay their father a surprise visit, and confirm that he is not with Darina.

Cindy talks to Sue and Nikki, then replies: "Okay. My mother lent me the car, and we are on our way."

Eve also asks her mother to lend her car: "I want to go there and see who Darina is with."

Laura says she's going with Eve.

The idea that Darina could be with the mayor no longer seems so far-fetched.

Eve texts Glenda: "Can you ask Daisy and Jess what make and model of car the mayor uses to meet them?"

Glenda says she'll ask.

Laura and Eve say goodbye to Meg and Kate, and hurriedly leave.

Laura doesn't even need to use the GPS, and drives as fast as she can.

Glenda's answer arrives when Laura and Eve are already getting close to the address: "A dark blue Toyota Corolla. It's a very discreet car."

Eve thanks her.

Laura then parks her car, and they see a car in front of the house.

It's a dark blue Toyota Corolla!

Then comes a new message from Cindy: "We are with my father. All right over here."

Eve and Laura now wonder how Darina could have known the mayor.

It's hard to think of something that makes sense.

Eve says what's on her mind: "The mayor met Daisy and Jess because they're call girls. Did Darina sign up for a dating site?"

Laura thinks it's possible, and asks Eve to wait a while.

She has access to Darina's activities.

Eve laughs, and asks if Laura monitors her and Helen too.

Laura makes a serious face, and says: "Of course not! Remember what I said about the girls' safety kit? They're on the Most Wanted list, so we've taken a number of security measures. We take on a great responsibility in bringing them here."

Laura checks what Darina has done since she got her cell phone.

Laura doesn't find any access from Darina to dating sites.

There are multiple calls to two numbers, but with messages to only one of them: it's Brian's phone.

The other number with multiple calls is from a man named Maxim.

The phone number is for this area.

Laura asks if Eve knows this Maxim guy.

Eve says no, and sends a message to Katya and Sonya, asking if they know who Maxim is, or if Darina mentioned that name.

They soon respond.

Katya and Sonya don't know him, and Darina has never mentioned him.

They say that name is common in Eastern Europe.

It could be from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus...

The mystery increases even more.

Eve and Laura find it strange that the only numbers are Brian's and this Maxim's guy.

There is no call or message from Mayor Rick to her, nor from her to the mayor.

Eve and Laura consider the possibilities.

Did Darina have a boyfriend in Russia, and he came here looking for her?

Could it be that Darina is a call girl, and Maxim is her pimp, and he came after her?

Perhaps Darina and Maxim took advantage of the NGO to 'open up' a new market.

If so, this Maxim could have arranged a meeting between Darina and the mayor.

It is a possibility to be considered.

It is also possible that the parked car is not the mayor's, but a mere coincidence.

Eve, however, is very suspicious of coincidences.

Laura accesses the location of Darina's smartphone again, and the pointed location remains the same.

It's right there.

They decide to stay to see if Darina will leave the house with the mayor.

Eve and Laura light their long, thin cigarettes, and wait.
