I didn't explain that enough, did I? The threesome didn't cure it, but it was exciting enough to at least temporarily bring back the desire.

A good start but it needed more conversation. Rather than, 'I tell Kate she looks tense' and 'I asked if she was ok with trying something new with me' give us the actual conversation. It makes the story more interesting and readable.
