Shane reluctantly took the bag from her and took direction from her for the rest of the afternoon as they cleared the rubbish, cleaned and hovered the house. The other friends did the washing up, cleaned up any breakages and spillages, phoned a glazer to come and fix the broken window and tidied the garden.

By 4pm everything in the house was back to normal in time for Liam's parents to return home. Scarlett walked with Shane and her friends to the train station. "I'll be in touch babe" he said, waving as she walked away. "Happy New Year" he shouted after her. She waved but didn't turn around and walked home feeling hopeful for the new year ahead.
