I take this is a take on alternative history but I think some more background info would provide context to the story. What are shipgirls exactly, who or why are they fighting Abyss???

I'm very late, I know, but Anon has said something I agree with; we could all use some more background here on...just about everything. More meat on the bones. Still it's an interesting start to a story.
