Fate soon turned against Katie again when she saw none other than Daniel enter across the room from her. There was no escape from what she had seen and heard the night before, Katie joked to herself as she tried to continue focusing on her workout.

That, however, was easier said than done. A few times Katie felt eyes on her, looking up to see Daniel divert his attention elsewhere. She felt a jolt of warmth through her each time this happened, though she wasn't sure why. Maybe it was because she had proven herself correct about him being muscular. His chiselled body was on show as he wore a pair of gym pants and a form-fitting tank top. Or because she knew he was in a relationship, if it could even be called that, with a married woman.

She saw the alure of someone like Daniel, but not enough of one to risk ruining a relationship. Katie had never cheated nor seen the point in it. But then again, she had never felt unsatisfied in a relationship she hadn't soon ended.

It was then Katie realised she'd stopped exercising and was staring at Daniel, who had certainly noticed. He smiled at her, which caused her to blush and hurriedly finish up her workout before rushing back to her room. She couldn't believe she'd made such a fool of herself - she was never one to lose focus like that. But Daniel had made her stop and stare and Katie didn't know what to do about that realisation.

Katie was surprised on her return to the suite that not only was Shaun awake, but also dressed.

"Hey, honey," he said. "Good workout?"

"Yeah, thanks," Katie said as she gave him a peck on the lips, trying to forget about her embarrassment. "I bumped into your cousin. We had a nice chat."

"Oh, nice. Talk about anything in particular?"

Katie paused a moment as she took off her top and bra. She had made a promise and she intended to keep it. If she said anything to Shaun, he'd just tell Jordan. "Nah, just girl stuff." Katie headed towards the bathroom after taking her pants off. "You showered?"

"Yeah."

"Shame. We could've had some fun." She winked at him and gave him a view of her just in her panties before shutting the door on him. It was said in jest, but there was some truth in her disappointment. She had become turned on again. Seeing Ashlyn and Daniel, and knowing their secret, had brought her arousal back to the forefront.

The newlyweds spent the rest of the day sightseeing and taking a romantic walk on the beach in between having meals with both their families. In the evening Katie had a meetup with some friends flying home the next day. Shaun took the opportunity to announce that given she was busy, he would be going out into the nearby area with his own friends. Though Katie argued she was only going out for a short while before returning to their room, he brushed her off, promising (again) not to get drunk. Upon learning Jordan was going, Katie wasn't holding out hope of him sticking to that.

That was how Katie found herself alone on the second night of her honeymoon. Once again she settled into bed with little chance of her and Shaun consummating their marriage and relieving her tension. She wore the same sleepwear as the night before and was just closing her eyes when she heard a noise from beyond the wall. It seemed Katie was in for a repeat of the previous night, though this time there would be no wondering who the couple were or what they were doing. The surprise was that they were doing it at all.

Katie had presumed Daniel would be with Shaun and his friends, but that evidently wasn't the case. This also meant Ashlyn had used the excuse of Jordan being out to have another session with Daniel. The man must be good to make her want to come back three nights in a row. That wasn't a shock, though. What Katie had heard, alongside Ashlyn's testimony, painted a clear picture.

At first, they were easy enough to ignore as there were just a few giggles and muffled words. But soon the action moved to the bed and Katie could hear what was going on all too well. They seemed to have started with Daniel pleasuring Ashlyn. Katie heard no sounds from him aside from a few muffled noises, but a growing series of shouts of approval from her. Within a few minutes Ashlyn was almost screaming and let the world know that she was coming.

"God, he must be good at that," Katie whispered to herself, laying a hand on her chest and feeling her heart pound against her ribcage. Shaun almost never offered to eat her out, only ever doing so after he had climaxed and she hadn't. But Daniel had started off strong with it.

Soon Ashlyn recovered and the pair continued their tryst, spelling everything out for Katie to hear.

"Oh, yeah, baby. Suck my titties," Ashlyn breathed, "oh, you know just what to do."

The attention paid to Ashlyn's breasts lasted a few minutes before the noises stopped. Katie's body was responding to the action, and she played with her own breasts and stiffening nipples. There was no point now in trying to pretend this wasn't incredibly arousing, especially when Daniel then spoke.

"Turn over, girl. I'm getting my reward. Your hand ain't enough."

A squeal followed and Katie knew Daniel had flipped Ashlyn over. Then there was the sound of a smack and a moan as he slapped her ass, followed by a pause and then a mutual groan that must have been Daniel entering Ashlyn.

For the next few minutes Katie listened intently to Daniel fucking Ashlyn, trying to picture their actions in her head. She thought of his muscular frame towering over Ashlyn's petite body and plunging into her from behind. Would he have a hold of her hips, or be fondling her tits as Katie was her own?

She had escalated from just massaging her boob to stuffing her free hand into her shorts to rub her aching clit. No longer could she wait for her orgasm. She would take matters into her own hands, literally. With the noises growing louder and more passionate, Katie increased her pace in time with the slaps of skin she could hear through the wall. Her breath became more ragged, and she knew she would soon reach her peak.

So too, it seemed, would the pair next door.

"Oh, shit! Don't slow down, I'm gonna come!" Ashlyn exclaimed.

"Fuck, me too. Where do you want it?"

Katie was too far gone to hear the response. Instead, she imagined Daniel asking her the same question while fucking her. As she did so, she climaxed and let out a scream of pleasure, weeks' worth of tension finally released.

Katie shuddered and came down from her high, before she froze with one hand still in her shorts and the other on her boob. Her cry had come after both Daniel and Ashlyn had finished climaxing. They had heard her and knew that not only had she been listening, but she'd gotten herself off to it. There was no way she could face either of them now, she'd have to come up with some excuse to avoid them. Not that it would be difficult with the guests leaving imminently. But the embarrassment would remain, Katie thought, cheeks warm.

Then the phone rang.

All other thoughts gone, Katie reached over to the bedside table and picked up her phone, frustration growing when she saw it was Shaun.

"'Just a few drinks,' huh?" She said, not even trying to be civil. Her anger turned to worry when she heard the voice on the other side.

"Katie," said Jordan, "there's been an accident."

It didn't take long to gather the details. A drunken Shaun had thought it would be a good idea to try and jump down a flight of stairs. He was now in A&E with an ankle injury. The momentary relief Katie had felt from her orgasm was gone and replaced with stress, worry and an anger that her husband could be so stupid. The call ended with Katie saying she would be there soon, before she got out of bed and put on some jeans and a lightweight sweater.

There was a knock on the door as Katie finished getting ready. She opened it to find Daniel, now also dressed. Behind him Katie saw Ashlyn heading off towards the elevators.

"Hi. I got a call, too. I said I'd make sure you got to the hospital alright. Is that okay?"

Once she got past the shock of seeing the man who'd overheard her orgasm to his fuck session moments before standing before her, she nodded. "Yeah," she said weakly, clearing her throat, a knot having formed there. "Yes, thank you." So, avoiding him to hide her embarrassment was off to a great start.

They walked in an awkward silence until they were in the elevator. When it began descending, Daniel spoke.

"We haven't been formally introduced, I'm Daniel," he said, extending a hand to her.

"Katie," she shook it and noted how strong it felt. "But I'm sure you knew that."

"Like I'm sure you knew mine," Daniel said with a smirk, it only growing as she blushed in response.

Nothing more was said as they rode down together before exiting the hotel and hailing a taxi. Once inside, Katie paid Daniel no mind and looked out of the window. She got lost in her thoughts as her mind turned back to her stupid husband.

It was like college all over again. Shaun would get drunk most nights and she'd have to tend to him. On one occasion he'd required stitches. On another, he broke his arm. He had promised to stop that behaviour and for a few years he had, but apparently being married gave him new lease to do it. She didn't know how she'd cope with a drunk husband and was thinking through worst eventualities when she felt a hand on her shoulder.

"Hey, he's going to be alright," Daniel said, attempting to reassure her. Only he had misunderstood her thoughts, mistaking anger for worry. Katie thought about berating him for it but knew none of this was his fault; he had no way of knowing what she was thinking about.

"I know," she said. "I just don't know if I will be." At Daniel's confused expression she continued. "You knew Shaun in college, right?" He nodded. "Then you'll know how he partied. And in the later years it was my job to handle the fallout. I was assured this wouldn't happen again, but here we are."

"Look, I won't tell you not to worry or be mad. But it has happened, and we need to deal with it. If it's any consolation, I'm here for another week. I can help with whatever you need."

"Another week?" She asked. "Most people went back today or will do tomorrow."

"Yeah, but work's been kicking my ass. I needed a break and this was a good excuse. I won't intrude if you don't want, though."

"No, I appreciate the offer. Just don't 'intrude' like you did with Ashlyn." As soon as the words passed her lips, she clamped her mouth shut. Then she went bright red. Daniel chuckled and shook his head.

"I was wondering if that'd come up," he said, shifting in his seat to face her more. "Let's not pretend you didn't hear us, nor we you. Okay?" Katie just nodded. "Good. We were fulfilling our needs, as were you. Though I am glad you enjoyed it so much." Daniel leaned forward, placed a hand on her knee and looked into Katie's eyes.

Katie was sure she was like a deer in headlights. His hand was warm and strong, and she couldn't help but think of it lifting Ashlyn up or mauling her breasts. That made her wonder if something else of his was warm and strong. Katie caught herself and really looked back at him. His gaze was deep and intense, his gorgeous brown eyes darker than before with a playful glint to them.

"Maybe it was a coincidence." She tried to act cool but was feeling anything but. That line just made him chuckle again.

"Maybe. Or maybe not." He raised his hand slightly to her lower thigh and Katie's eyes laser focused on it. "Though it is a shame. I'd be happy to give you a hands-on experience."

To exemplify his point, he gave her thigh another rub and she had to suppress a moan. She had no idea how he was getting such a response out of her or why she wasn't batting his hand away. All she knew was she liked the feel of its strength and warmth.

For once fate was on Katie's side as the taxi arrived at the hospital. Once the car had stopped and Daniel went to pay the driver, Katie shot out of the door and gulped in air. She needed to get a grip of herself. They were on their way to the hospital for her injured husband, for God's sake, yet here she was getting touched up and turned on by one of his groomsmen. She heard Daniel's deep laugh behind her, and she hurried off into the hospital with him following close behind.

Fortunately, Shaun hadn't done any serious damage to himself, getting away with a sprained ankle. Unfortunately, he would need at least several days' rest with putting no pressure on it, which meant much of the honeymoon would be spent in their room. Katie cursed to herself and sent Shaun's friends, including Daniel, away, needing some time to think. Her husband was hurt and her honeymoon plans ruined.

Given Shaun was pumped full of painkillers, she wouldn't have 'the talk' with him yet. But they would have to decide how the rest of the honeymoon was to be with him out of action for most of it. The doctors soon finished up and let Katie take him back to the hotel with some loaned crutches. They told her he needed to come back for a check-up and remove his ankle brace in a few days. By the time Katie had gotten them back to the hotel and into bed, the first rays of dawn were visible out of the bedroom window.

***

It was almost noon when Katie awoke. Shaun was still asleep beside her, and she was still mad, so she left him there while she changed into a plain, crimson swimsuit covered by a grey tank top and blue jean shorts and headed down to the hotel pool.

Two figures standing in a dark alcove caught Katie's attention as she entered the hotel lobby. She felt a sense of déjà vu upon seeing it was Daniel and Ashlyn, as it had been on her wedding night. They seemed to be having a private moment, so Katie continued towards the pool but stopped when she heard her name being called.

She turned to see Jordan, waving at her from a pile of luggage near the reception desk. Today was apparently the day he and Ashlyn were to depart. Katie walked over with a polite smile.

"You guys leaving?"

"Yup. Back to Louisiana with us." He waited a beat before continuing, realising he had nothing real to say to her. "How's Shaun, though? I'm so sorry about what happened." One look at Jordan's face told Katie he was just sorry they hadn't gotten away with nothing bad happening. It was almost possible to not feel bad that his wife was cheating on him.

"Well, he needs rest. He's sleeping." Katie was about to look for an excuse to end the conversation when Ashlyn slid in beside her husband, a beaming smile on her face.

"Hey, Katie. Come to say goodbye?"

"Apparently."

"Heh. I wanted to come see Shaun, but I wasn't sure what room y'all were in." She gave Katie a coy smile. They both knew Ashlyn was all too familiar with where Katie was staying.

The conversation was cut off by the sound of a coach arriving outside. Excusing himself, Jordan went out to sort their luggage, leaving the two women alone.

"Thank fuck," Katie muttered, making Ashlyn laugh before turning back to the redhead.

"So, I hear you got acquainted with Daniel."

Katie sighed. "Yes, but nothing happened."

"Not how I hear it."

"I was emotional and embarrassed. I wasn't thinking straight."

"Mhm," said Ashlyn, her look telling Katie she didn't buy the excuse. "But y'know, he is into you. And I think you're into him, if what we overheard and the taxi are anything to go by."

"Could've been a coincidence." It was the same excuse Katie had given Daniel and she knew it was a bad one, but there was really nothing else she could say.

Ashlyn grinned. "Sure. You just happened to cry out in orgasm three seconds after Daniel and I."

Katie squinted her eyes. "Even if it wasn't coincidence, you're forgetting two very important things. One: I'm married."

"So am I," Ashlyn cut in.

Katie shot her an incredulous look before continuing. "Two: there is a difference between fantasies or light flirtation and cheatin' on my husband. My husband, who's your family, your cousin, if you hadn't forgotten."

"Of course, I haven't. But you're his wife now - you're family too. And I'd hate to see you struggle like I did. You deserve to do what makes you happy, what fulfils you."

"Shaun makes me happy. I love him," Katie said. It was true, but she deliberately avoided the topic of fulfilment. While Shaun wasn't inadequate sexually, leaving her alone on their first two nights of marriage hadn't sent the best message.

"It's possible to separate love and sex, you know." Katie didn't know if she believed that but didn't feel like escalating the situation. Apparently, neither did Ashlyn. "But Shaun's a better man than my husband, so maybe it'll all be fine." Ashlyn took a deep breath and placed a hand on Katie's arm. "I'm sorry if I've upset you."

Katie saw the olive branch for what it was and took it with a nod. "Accepted. Now, your husband seems just about done and we both know how he hates waiting." Ashlyn pulled Katie in for a quick hug before releasing her. "Get home safe."

"Enjoy your honeymoon and whatever it may bring," Ashlyn said as she headed off. The veiled meaning of her words was not lost on Katie. She waited until Ashlyn was out of the hotel before turning to go for her swim.

As she swam, Katie tried hard to relax and focus on the feel of the water as she pushed through it, but her thoughts kept going back to the conversation she'd just concluded. How dare Ashlyn suggest such a thing? Was her apology even genuine? She had clocked Ashlyn had apologised if she'd upset Katie but didn't apologise for what she'd actually said.

Then another thought struck her that almost made her freeze in place and lose her momentum.

What if Ashlyn was right? What if she did want Daniel? He was hot, muscular and intense. It would also be a lie to say that him being black wasn't driving her interest in him, making his other attributes even more intoxicating. But he was her husband's friend and for that reason, as well as the small fact of her being married, she couldn't let her thoughts go any further.

Soon Katie decided she'd swum enough. She couldn't help but feel like someone was watching her as she finished up. But no one was looking her way as she dried off and dressed, so she shrugged it off as a repercussion of her current anxiety.

On the way back to Shaun she made a quick detour to reception to make sure the trip she'd booked to Fort Lauderdale with Shaun was still going ahead in two days' time. It was, thankfully. Despite spending her pre-teen years in Florida, she had never been and was very much looking forward to it.

Shaun was laying on the bed when Katie returned to their room, foot propped up on a pillow. Katie had half a mind to tear into him for his stupidness, but decided she just wanted to forget about it as best she could and move on.

"Hey." Shaun spoke first while Katie changed into one of the hotel robes.

"Hey. You eaten yet?"

"No."

"Then let's order something. My treat."

"You do remember my dad is paying for all this, right?"

"Yes, Shaun," she rubbed the bridge of her nose, "it's called a joke. But seriously, I'm starving, so I'm getting something."

The newlyweds spent the rest of the day together in an awkward limbo. Neither brought up the elephant in the room, instead choosing to focus on their food and then the board games they had procured to play together. By the end of the day, most of Katie's anger had dissipated.

Shaun finally decided to breach the topic when Katie got ready for the gym before dinner.

"You know I'm sorry, right?" He asked. "I was stupid and I ruined the honeymoon."

"I'm not even mad about the honeymoon, Shaun. You broke a promise to not do this shit again. It's not a good foundation for the marriage if we're breaking promises after two days."
