You bring up a valid point about the parents simply providing Lilly a vibrator. Honestly, as I wrote the story, that approach didn’t occur to me. However, the Vatspalts are clearly deviant (to say the least) and I envision their training, manipulation and subjugation of Lilly, an innocent, over protected virgin, to be a reflection of that deviance. They view Lilly as a blank canvas and completely malleable. A vibrator would be easy (and expected) for them. Getting Lilly to use a foreign object, and for her to believe that the bottle is the proper way to discover herself molds her to their expectations of what this young concubine should be. What I did consider was Lilly’s home life. She would be able to more easily explain a wine bottle hidden under her mattress than a vibrator. She could get away with sneaking a drink and not be considered a sinner for doing so. Sex is an entirely different matter with her parents. As earlier chapters reveal, Lilly is terrified of her parents discovering her sexuality. A found vibrator would reveal Lilly’s secret interest in sex. Finally, given the popularity and wide use of glass dildos, the use of a wine bottle didn’t seem unsafe or that it would injure her. Again, thanks for these comments. I do really appreciate them and I don’t mind sharing my thoughts as it came together.
